Help & Guide.
Everything about PrismTab — how to use it, and every setting explained.
Getting Started
What is PrismTab?
PrismTab replaces your browser's new tab page with a local dashboard for bookmarks, widgets, and search. Once installed, every new tab opens PrismTab automatically.
Do I need an account to use PrismTab?
No. There's no sign-up or login. Everything is stored locally in your browser.
Bookmarks & Folders
How do I add a bookmark or folder?
Right-click any empty space in the main grid, inside a folder, or in the dock, then choose Add Bookmark or Add Folder.
How do I edit a bookmark?
Right-click the bookmark and choose Edit. An edit popup will open where you can change the bookmark's name, URL, background color, or even upload a custom icon.
How do I unpack a folder?
Right-click the folder and choose Unpack folder. This dissolves the folder and moves all its contents back out, one level up.
How do I rename a folder?
Open the folder by clicking it, then click the folder name at the top to make it editable. Type the new name, then click away or press Enter to save it.
How do I delete an item (bookmark, folder, or widget)?
Right-click the item and choose Delete. For important items—like widgets, bookmarks, or folders that have things inside them—deletion isn't instant. A short "Undo" notification will appear at the top of the screen, giving you a few seconds to cancel before it's permanently removed.
Drag & Drop
How do I rearrange my dashboard?
Simply click and drag any bookmark, folder, or widget to move it around the grid or dock. The layout will automatically adjust to make room.
How do I merge two bookmarks?
Drag one bookmark and drop it directly on top of another bookmark. This will instantly merge them into a new folder.
How do I move bookmarks into an existing folder?
Drag a bookmark and hover it over a folder until it highlights, then release. (Note: Widgets cannot be placed inside folders).
How do I move an item out of a folder to the main dashboard or dock?
Open the folder, drag the item outside of the folder overlay, and drop it exactly where you want it in the main grid or the dock.
How do I move an item from a sub-folder back to its parent folder?
When you are inside a sub-folder, drag the item and drop it onto the "Back" arrow button at the top left of the overlay. This moves the item up one level to the parent folder.
Can I move items between the dock and the main grid?
Yes. You can drag any bookmark, folder, or widget from the main grid down into the dock, or from the dock back up to the main grid.
Widgets
How do I add a widget?
Right-click empty space in the main grid or the dock, choose Add Widgets to open the Widget Library, then click the + on any widget to add it to your dashboard.
How do I resize a widget?
Right-click the widget itself and select Resize to cycle through its available sizes.
Search
How do I search my bookmarks and widgets?
Press Ctrl + F (⌘ + F on Mac) anywhere on the dashboard to open Spotlight search, or right-click empty space and choose Spotlight.
How do I control what Spotlight searches?
In Settings → Spotlight, you can choose whether Folders, Widgets, and Web Addresses are included in your results, and switch the display between List and Card view.
Customization
How do I change the wallpaper?
Settings → Wallpaper has a Daily Wallpaper that changes automatically (you can click the freeze icon to lock in one you like), a gallery of default images, and a Custom upload button for your own images.
How do I set a solid color background instead of an image?
Go to Settings → Wallpaper → Solid Colors. There are 16 presets (including White, Black, and Navy Blue) plus a custom color picker. The Blur and Dimming sliders apply to any background you choose.
How do I change the theme and accent color?
Settings → Appearance has Theme Mode (Auto, Light, or Dark) and Accent Color (presets or a custom color picker).
How do I change the look of my bookmarks, folders, and widgets?
Settings → Appearance controls Widget Style (Glass, Solid, or None), Widget Shape (Squircle or Circle), and Widget Color. These apply to everything on your dashboard grid and dock.
How do I change the clock style in Minimalist mode?
Go to Settings → Appearance. Under the Minimalist section, you can change the Font, Clock Font Weight, and Clock Format (12h/24h).
How do I show or hide elements in Minimalist mode?
Go to Settings → Workspace. Under the Minimalist section, you can independently toggle Show Seconds, Date Above Time, the Search Bar, the Daily Goal, and the Daily Quote.
How do I resize or space out the dashboard grid?
Settings → Workspace has Grid Spacing (Compact, Comfortable, or Loose) and a Grid Width slider that controls how much of the screen the dashboard fills.
How do I hide the search bar, icon labels, or the dock?
Search Bar, Icon Labels, and Dock Visibility (Always, Auto-Hide, Hidden) each toggle independently in Settings → Workspace.
Bookmark Sync
How do I turn on two-way bookmark sync?
Go to Settings → General → Browser Bookmarks and turn on Sync Browser Bookmarks. It's two-way — bookmarks you add in PrismTab appear in Chrome's native bookmarks, and bookmarks you add in Chrome appear in PrismTab. A manual sync-now button is available in the same section, and the browser permission is strictly optional and off by default.
Performance & Troubleshooting
How do I fix PrismTab feeling slow?
Two settings make the biggest difference: switch Widget Style from Glass to Solid in Appearance (this turns off the blurred glass effect, which is the most GPU-intensive visual), and turn on Reduce Animations under General → Performance.
How do I report a bug or issue?
Use the Report an Issue page, with as much detail as you can give.
Data & Backup
Where is my data stored?
Locally, on your device. PrismTab doesn't run analytics or send your data to a server — see the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
How do I back up or restore my dashboard?
Settings → General → Data has Back Up (exports a full JSON snapshot of your dashboard) and Restore (loads a previous backup back in).
How do I fix bookmark icons that look wrong?
Settings → General → Data → Refresh Icons re-fetches bookmark favicons through PrismTab's own image service.
How do I reset PrismTab to default settings?
Settings → General → Reset → Reset Settings reverts every setting back to default without touching your bookmarks or widgets.
